Achievement Night Winners

Congratulations to the many 4-H'ers and volunteers recognized at 4-H Achievement Night. Ron Burleson was awarded the Friend of 4-H Award, and the Parter of 4-H Award was presented to Mr. Jerry van Hoven of Battlefield Farms. Bobby Chambers won the Harry T. Peters, Jr. Award and Amanda Ramey won a $500 college scholarship. 4-H club organizational leaders for last year were presented with navy polo shirts embroidered with the 4-H logo.

If you missed the event, please contact your 4-H club leader for your year pin and record book. Thanks to everyone who came out, and many thanks to those who helped with setup and cleanup. You did a wonderful job and made things go very quickly. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Gallahan Takes First Place for Poinsettia Sales!

Poinsettia forms have been turned in and tallied! Congratulations to Melanie Gallahan, member of the Solids, Spots, and Dots 4-H Horse Club, for being high seller! She had several pages of sales, totaling $435! Way to go, Melanie! Thanks to all the 4-H'ers who participated in this fundraiser. You did a great job. Remember to pick up the plants Saturday, December 6, from 9-10 a.m. in the public meeting room of the Sedwick Building.

Officer & Volunteer Training Deemed Successful

4-H youth and volunteers from six local counties met in Orange Saturday for an officer and volunteer training. Orange, Madison, Culpeper, Louisa, Fluvanna, and Albemarle youth learned how to be stronger leaders and practiced performing the duties of their elected position. Adults in attendance shared ideas for 4-H programs and learned new ways of handling situations that arise in some clubs. Altogether, there were more than 70 youth and 20 adults who participated. Good luck to all club officers this year!

LEGO Girls Win District Competition

Congratulations to Orange's all-girls LEGO Robotics team! Chelsea Wilson, Moriah Whitten, Bailey Good, and Spirit Karcher took first place in Championship and first in Robot Performance at this past weekend's district competition in Harrisonburg, VA. They will advance to States at James Madison University, December 6-7. We are proud of their performance and appreciative of the efforts of coaches Becky Wilson and Sue Burleson. Way to go!

Free Tree Seedlings Offered to 4-H'ers

Plant a tree! Save the Earth - breathe cleaner air. 4-H members can sign up for free tree seedlings, hardwood or pine, until January 15th. They will be delivered in late March and April. Seedlings can be planted by individuals or groups, so improve your home landcape or partner with club members and adopt a public area that could benefit from trees. Contact Kaci at the Extension Office if you would like to participate in this tree planting program.

Dairy Club Members Compete in National Contest

Congratulations to Dairy Club members Molly Elgin and Coty Goodwin, who competed in the National 4-H Dairy Quiz Bowl competition in Louisville, Kentucky, this past weekend. Molly and Coty were two members of Orange County's winning state team, and then qualified for the national event. They won their first round, and ultimately were eliminated by much older teams from Ohio and North Carolina. We're proud of Molly and Coty's months of hard work in preparation for the event, and congratulate them on an honorable job well done in competition. Program Coordinator Ashley Elgin accompanied the team to Louisville and served as Assistant Coach, along with Dave Winston, 4-H Dairy Youth Specialist at Virginia Tech.
