4-H Horse Project Members Collecting Winter Coats for Those in Need

Even though we're sweating in the heat of summer right now, this weather won't last forever. In preparation for winter, and the Virginia State 4-H Horse Show, local 4-H horse clubs are collecting winter coats for the needy. Statewide, Virginia 4-H horse project members hope to collect enough winter coats to fill a horse trailer! To be successful, they'll need your help! Please look through your closets and consider donating any coats that you may be able to spare. Bring them to the Extension Office prior to September 14th, and we'll make sure they get transported to Lexington to the horse show. Donated coats will be distributed through the "One Warm Coat" service project.

Bryan was 8th in Halter Hunter Mares and 7th in Pony Working Hunter. Oldest sister Amanda was 4th First Level Test 4 Dressage and placed 2nd in Halter Hunter Geldings. Ashleigh Ramey 1st First Level Test 4 Dressage, 10th Halter Hunter Geldings, 11th Hunter Under Saddle, 3rd Hunt Seat Equitation on the Flat, 1st Open Jumping, 11th Working Hunter Over Fences, and 4th Equitation on the Flat. In addition, she was named Reserve High Point Hunter and was ninth in the public speaking division. This is the first time in recent memory that anyone from Orange has competed in the speech division at Southern Regionals. Great job, guys!

Congratulations, JoJo Gilbert!

Congratulations to JoJo Gilbert, who won Intermediate Showmanship at the Virginia PDCA Holstein Show in Harrisonburg last week. This was his first year to compete in the event. After winning his age division, JoJo was called back and named Reserve Champion Showman overall. He also exhibited a first-place dry cow. Congratulations, and thanks for representing Orange 4-H well!

Remember to send fair thank you notes!

Please remember to send thank you notes to 4-H volunteers and supporters at the fair. If you need a list of addresses, they were e-mailed by the Extension Office last week, or you can contact us again for that list. Thanks for a great event; we're proud of you!
