Extension Office Closed for Christmas Holiday

The Extension Office will be closed on Thursday and Friday, December 23 & 24. The office will reopen on Monday, December 27, at 8 am. Merry Christmas to you and your family.

Winter Weather Reminder

Orange County 4-H's policy for inclement weather is: If Orange County Public Schools are closed, or close early, 4-H activities for that day/evening are also cancelled.

4-H Announces Outbound Exchange Program to Argentina for 2011

The 4-H exchange program is growing! Just announced this morning...Argentina will be a possibility for travel in 2011. Participants must be ages 15-18 and travel dates are July 7 - August 7. Applications are due March 1 with a $1500 deposit. Total cost of the trip is expected to be $3600-3900, but there's plenty of time to fundraise. Think about the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity here! Contact the Extension Office for more information. And if you can't travel in 2011, keep this in mind and save your pennies for several years!

BIT N BRIDLE CLUB COMPETES IN NORTHERN DISTRICT HORSE JUDGING CONTEST



On Saturday, November 20, 2010, three 4H members from the Orange County Bit N Bridle 4H club attended the Northern District Horse Judging Contest at Summer Breeze Farm in Free Union, Virginia. Seniors, Kaci Meads and Delaney O’Donnell formed a team with the Lousia County Seniors and received a 4th Place in the Halter Division; a 6th place in the Performance division; and 6th Place Overall High Point Team. Junior 4Her, Charlotte Manvell teamed up with 3 girls from Prince William County. As a team, they received a 6th Place finish in the Halter Division; 2nd Place in the Performance Division and placed 4th overall. At this contest both Seniors and Juniors judged 9 classes which included: Halflinger Ponies, Stock- type Horses, and Hunters. Seniors gave reasons to the judges for 2 of the 9 classes. We will now be using Google Calendar to share 4-H events and activities. Please use the calendar at right to view upcoming 4-H programs and activities. Regularly scheduled club meetings are not yet posted, but we hope to add those soon. If you are a Google Calendar user, you can also add these events to your own calendar.

4-H Hopes to Start State Dog Council

4-H volunteers with an interest in dog projects are invited to an organizational meeting Saturday, January 15, in Spotsylvania, to pursue the establishment of a 4-H Dog Council. This group will help plan and manage the state dog show, identify resources for helping youth train their dog projects, explore different aspects of the dog industry and competition world, etc. For more information, e-mail Kaci and she can send you the e-mail that came from the state.

STATEWIDE 4-H TEEN WEEKEND COMING IN MARCH

The Virginia State 4-H Cabinet presents
the Fifth Annual Statewide Teen Weekend!
Cabinet members and volunteers will
be leading some fantastic workshops that
will expand your knowledge. Throughout
the weekend you will have the opportunity
to participate in interactive, hands-on
workshops that will increase your team
building skills, bring out the scientist in
you, and teach you the meditative practices
in yoga. You will also have an opportunity
to learn proper table etiquette as
well as making some delicious and healthy
snacks to enjoy.

Participants will also learn about all the
opportunities possible in 4-H on the local,
state, and national level. You don’t want to
miss this great experience to meet other
teens from all across the Commonwealth.

As part to the community service project,
we will be hosting a can food drive to
benefit a local food pantry. So please
bring with you at least one item to donate,
drop boxes will be available during registration.


So come join us for the weekend!!! The
cost of the event is $95.00, which includes
lodging, meals, and tons of FUN!!!
