Elizabeth Nixon Earns Opportunity to Judge Livestock in Europe in 2012

Congratulations to Elizabeth Nixon, Orange 4-H Livestock Club member, who judged on the Virginia 4-H Livestock Judging Team that competed in Louisville, KY, this week.  The team placed third overall and has earned a trip to the world competition in Europe next year!!!  Additionally, Elizabeth placed in the Top 10 individuals (everyone was so excited they can't remember if it was eighth place or ninth) and gave two sets of beef oral reasons that scored 47 and 48 out of 50!  We are so proud of Elizabeth and happy that she has achieved this goal she set for herself many years ago.

Elizabeth is the daughter of Tom and Kim Nixon of Rapidan, where the family owns and operates Glenmary Farm, LLC.

Officer Training Moving Next Door to the Middle School

Tomorrow’s 4-H Officer Training from 9:30-12:00 has been moved 100 feet (literally!) to the Wetsel Middle School Cafeteria instead of the Madison High School Cafeteria.  The two schools are practically joined, and they share a parking lot, so this will not be a big change.  There was another school activity scheduled over us.  See you tomorrow, club officers and interested parties!!!

Community Service Opportunity Cleaning Up the New Fairgrounds

The Orange Fair Board is requesting 4-H’s help to prepare their new grounds.  If you’re available, please join them this Sunday, November 6, at 2:00 p.m. at the new fairgrounds.  Please wear old clothes and you may wish to bring gloves; help is needed to pick up sticks to prepare for grass seed.

The new fairgrounds are located on Old Gordonsville Road.  From the town of Orange, take Rt. 15 South and turn left on Old Gordonsville Road (next to Real Food and across from the new hotel).  Proceed approximately two miles and the new grounds will be on your right.
