Small Animal Weigh-in Sees Many Entries
More than 150 animals were weighed in Friday for the official start of market hog, lamb, and goat projects for the Orange County Fair. We thank the Orange Livestock Market for the use of their facilities and the parents and 4-H members who made the event run smoothly. Exact numbers of animals are: 79 hogs, 42 lambs, 30 goats. This is in addition to 38 steers weighed in January. It looks like we'll have a HUGE show this year.

Japanese 4-H Youth Want to Stay With YOU this Summer!
There are still a number of Japanese LABO Exchange youth looking for a Virginia host family this summer. Youth range in age from 12-15, and list their "desires in America" as: learn about American food and culture, teach host family calligraphy and origami, try horseback riding and taking care of cattle...the list goes on. We in Orange County can DEFINITELY expose youth to these activities. Won't you consider opening your home?
Both males and females are still on the list waiting for placement. Their hobbies include music and playing instruments, fishing, arts and crafts, cooking, reading, swimming, sports, LEGOS, and more. Please contact the Extension Office for a complete list of youth looking for host families as well as their biographical info. Host families are needed July 22 to August 18.

Crazy Pets Enjoy Great Outdoors During Meeting
Last evening, members of the Crazy Pets 4-H Club ventured down to the creek to see what they could find. As luck would have it, their netting experiences yielded crawfish galore. Though they ran out of time to examine water findings under the microscope, members still enjoyed a great evening outside.
The group will next meet on June 1, 2010, when they will practice their presentations for the fair. All are encouraged to visit with the club during the petting zoo at the Orange County Fair in July!
Friday Last Day to Buy Camp Sweatshirts
Friday, May 7th is the last day to order 4-H camp sweatshirt hoodies. They are $18 each, heather gray, with black and green writing. Bring your money to the Extension Office by Friday if you wish to order. Even those not going to camp this year may order.
