STATE CHAMPION OCHS 4-H ANGLERS

The OCHS 4-H Anglers 6-Man Team continued their winning tradition by winning the Virginia State 6-Man Team Championship at Smith Mountain Lake this past weekend. This was the youngest team ever to represent Orange County High School consisting of four sophomores, one junior and one senior. This was the 6th straight win for the OCHS Anglers and they won with the greatest margin of any of the previous teams in any state competition. The team had more than a 10 lb total bag weight margin.
Steven Mundell sealed this margin by nearly matching the total team weight of each of the participating teams with his 4 fish bag weight of 7.13 lbs. He was followed by Kevin Beasley with 3 bass weighing 4.58 lbs. Devon Bowling was next with 2 bass weighing 2.83 lbs and was followed by Kasey Henshaw, the first female member. She had 2 fish for 2.50 lbs and was followed by Austin Mitchell with one fish weighing 1.68 lbs. The team was penalized ½ lb for 1 dead fish at the scale therefore the official total team weight was 18.72 lbs. Sophomore Franklin Marrs caught several fish but due to strict length restrictions was unable to bring them to the scale. Team Alternate was Senior Zach Tiblin who assisted the Official Weigh Master. Official photographer for the event was Austin Clore. This was the final event to be held by the state for the 2010 season.
The 2011 Season will begin with the next individual qualifier that is to be held next month, October 23 & 24, 2010. Check out the team trophy in the front office of OCHS. It will be engraved with all members’ and alternates’ names. Congratulations to the OCHS 4-H Anglers for a great season.
