Just as a reminder, the deadline for senior youth to enter the Virginia Association of Fairs' Youth Scholarship Contest is Friday, December 2nd. That is a FIRM deadline and hard-copy packets (no emails, no faxes) must be received in the Bath County Extension office by that date. Participants also need to work with the contest coordinator to secure hotel rooms. You cannot book directly through the conference hotel.
The VAF annual conference will be held January 6-7, 2017, at The Omni Homestead resort. The youth scholarship contest is open to youth ages 14-19 who have participated in or provided service to a VAF-member fair. The five-segment contest will award scholarships totaling $7,000!
Youth must submit an essay on the assigned topic, a professional resume, and a letter of recommendation by December 2. On contest day, youth will complete an interview, give a PowerPoint presentation, complete a prepared speech on a topic of their choosing related to the fair industry, and compete in extemporaneous speaking.
