It's 4-H public speaking season, one of the best times of the year! Seriously. Orange 4-H'ers do a great job, even those who think they "can't" because they're too nervous or too shy.
The county contests will be held Friday, March 17, at 6:00 p.m., and we're looking for contestants! Visit our document library to see what your contest options are.
If you like speaking, try a presentation or demonstration like "How to Build a LEGO House" or "Why Hoof Care is Important in Horses". Did you write a speech at school? Go the route of the public speaking contest: "Abe Lincoln: My Favorite President" or "What I like About Traveling".
Radio spots are fun! They're exactly 30-second promotional "ads" for 4-H. Change your voice up so you catch people's attention! Extemporaneous speaking is great for those who can "think on their feet" and want the challenge of preparing for a topic with only 15 or 30 minutes. Extemp contestants might get asked, "What's your most memorable moment from childhood?" or "How can your 4-H club be improved?"
If you sing, dance, act, tell jokes, or perform in other ways, Share-the-Fun might be your style. There are six categories to choose from!
Finally, Table Setting combines creativity, menu planning, local foods, and decorating into one fun event.
