The Orange County 4-H Stockmen’s Team travelled to Front
Royal on the 10th of February to compete in the annual Skyline Stockmen’s
Contest. Participants placed 8 classes of livestock (cattle, sheep, goats and
hogs), answered 4 sets of questions over those classes, placed a class of
steaks and hay respectively, they also identified equipment, feed, breeds, and
cuts of meats and finished up with a quiz testing their knowledge of the
livestock industry.
The junior team placed 8th place out of 20 junior
age teams from across the state and West Virginia. Team members included Connor
Dodson, Sadie Wentz, and Oscar Wentz.
Sadie Wentz led the junior team effort, placing as the 3rd
high junior individual in the contest out of 74 individuals.
Roxanne Akers and Diesle Gilbert placed in the top third of
the contest as senior individuals out of 63 participants.
