There will be a State Fair nomination site for cattle, sheep, and meat goats in Madison County on Thursday, June 13, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Youth may nominate at any advertised site in the state; this location is the only one on which we have specific information at this time. The full nomination site list is expected later this week.
The Madison location will be Senterfitt & Virginia Cattle Companies, 5866 Orange Road, Radiant, VA 22732. This is the same location as our local steer weigh-in in January. Animals can arrive anytime between 4:30-6:30 pm.
Anyone wishing to show market lambs, commercial ewe lambs, market goats, commercial does, market cattle, or commercial cattle without a tag from a previous State Fair must attend one nomination site to be tagged and weighed. On-site, there will be paperwork to complete with name, address, scrapie tag number, etc.
The nomination sites are for the animals; it is preferred that youth attend with their animals, but not required in case of scheduling conflicts. Youth exhibitors must also attend a YQCA certification annually. (The Orange-Madison YQCA event will be the same day--Thursday, June 13, from 10 am to Noon--at the Virginia Tech Northern Piedmont Center. Youth can attend any YQCA event in the state, but must be present for the entire scheduled time.)
