Diesle Gilbert Senior Profile
“Hard work pays off.”
This was one of the major life lessons recent graduate of Monticello High School, Diesle Gilbert, learned throughout his time in Orange County 4-H.
Diesle Gilbert grew up as a member of Orange County 4-H starting out as a Cloverbud and eventually joining the Livestock and Dairy clubs as he got older. As Diesle reflected on his time in 4-H, he mentioned the most challenging part of it was, “breaking the animals,” because it is a time consuming task that can be difficult to balance with other responsibilities. However, despite this challenge of halter training new animals, Gilbert looked forward to showing them each year while also getting to know other 4-H members.
Recently, Diesle attended many different shows including Glenwood, the Beef Expo, and the Orange County Fair at which he received Champion Cow Calf Pair, Champion Bred and Owned Market Steer, Champion Bred and Owned Market Goat, Champion Bred and Owned Breeding Doe, and many other awards of high placing. Gilbert also plans to attend the Virginia State Fair in late September, where he will showcase his animals one last time this summer.
Outside of 4-H, Diesle spends his time working full time as an electrician, which is what he plans to do throughout his future.
Thank you Diesle for your time and dedication to 4-H. We wish you luck in all of your future endeavors. Congratulations!
