The theme this year is "Journey to the Center of the Dairy Farm."
Who can participate? Every bona fide Virginia 4-H member.
Age groups? Junior: 9 to 11 years old as of September 30, 2022, Intermediate: 12 to 13 years old as of September 30, 2022, Senior: 14 to 19 years old as of September 30, 2022.

Where? You may participate in your local community.
Why? To learn more about milk and milk products and their importance to human health.
How?
A. Poster must be on 8 1⁄2” × 11” white card stock, not poster board. Other sizes are ineligible.
B. Use slogan and stick to theme.
C. Newspaper and film cartoon characters may not be used.
D. Posters must contain only original, hand-drawn artwork done by the participant. Computer-
generated artwork and text are not acceptable and will result in disqualification of the poster.
E. Do not attach items thicker than the card stock to the poster.
F. Get ideas from television, magazines, parents, and friends. Study pictures from your grocery
store, dairy plant, dairy nutrition council, or milk cooperatives for additional ideas.
G. Keep it simple and to the point.
H. Display photocopies of your poster in prominent locations in your hometown during the
month of June. For example: store windows, town library, school display, extension office.
I. Complete a contest entry form and tape it to the back of your poster.
Scoring Guidelines
Originality, attracts attention, holds interest- 40%
Follows theme-20%
Conveys message, easily understood-15%
General appearance - well-planned, good design easily read; neat and well-constructed- 15%
Accurate information, factual -10%
Winners: The top three posters in each age category at the unit level may compete for state
awards. Posters may be mailed to Dave Winston, Litton Reaves Hall, Room 2050, 175 West
Campus Drive, Blacksburg, VA 24061. They must be postmarked by June 15, 2022. Use a large
envelope and do not fold your poster. Posters will be mailed back to unit offices after judging.
Prizes: Unit Winners: In each age group, first, second, and third place winners receive ribbons.
State Winners: First place in each age group - $100
Second place in each age group - $75
Third place in each age group - $50
